The oldest resident of The Manor House, Chatburn, Mrs Eileen Kenyon has celebrated her 105th birthday with a card from the Queen alongside cake and champagne supplied by the staff.

Care Manager Judith Barnes said: “She’s such an amazing lady. We’re so proud of her and love her to bits and she’s still as sharp as a tack and has a wicked sense of humour.”

Among many visitors on the big day she was joined by her grandsons, one of whom had flown in from his home in Tenerife. Born in 1908 in Alderley Edge, Cheshire, Mrs Kenyon spent the best part of 100 years living in Clitheroe and was until the age of 102 still living independently in her own home on Whalley Road.

Asked about the secret to longevity, Eileen replied: “Clean living, no hanky-panky and the love of my family and friends.”
