A Clitheroe teenager suffered serious injuries after falling onto a railway track on Friday evening.

Police and ambulance crews were called to Ramsgreave and Wilpshire station following reports that a 16-year-old boy had fallen from the nearby road bridge onto the tracks.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “Shortly after 7 pm we were called to Ramsgreave and Wilpshire rail station following reports of a teenager having been injured. Officers attended, alongside colleagues from Lancashire Constabulary and North West Regional Ambulance Service and discovered a 16-year-old boy had fallen from a road bridge onto the tracks.

“The boy, from Clitheroe, was taken to Royal Preston Hospital where he is being treated for several broken bones. The incident is not being treated as suspicious.”

Trains between Blackburn and Clitheroe were delayed for several hours.
