Tomorrow (Friday) marks the beginning of the Christmas season in Clitheroe with its traditional St Nicholas Night parade.

After minced pies and mulled wine at Clitheroe Parish Church a procession following Mary and Joseph on their donkeys will weave its way through the town finding there is no room as the inn on its way.

It finishes at the town crib with carols and all those taking part can then watch the East Lancashire Hospice Santa Dash. “Dress code” is described as “biblical” – angels, wise men and shepherds of all ages are welcome

St Nicholas was the original Santa Claus and his story forms part of a short presentation at the church at 5 pm.

“This is has proved to be a really magical evening in which everyone is invited to take part in the story of the Nativity,” said the Rev. Andy Froud. “I hope that it will be a continued reminder in the stress and business of the weeks to come of the real meaning of Christmas peace.”

You can still register for the dash at Ribblesdale School from 5 pm Friday.
