All the pomp and ceremony of Clitheroe Town Council’s annual mayor making ceremony takes place again next Tuesday.

It begins at 11-45 am with the civic party processing from the town council offices in Church Street, down Wellgate, along Lowergate, up King Lane and through Market Place back to Church Street and the Moot Hall, part of the library buildings.

In keeping with tradition, the procession will be led by the town’s Halberdiers and the Town Sergeant, dressed in their official regalia.

The annual meeting of the town council – open to everyone in the parish – will be held in the Moot Hall beginning at noon.

During the meeting, the town mayor for the past municipal year, Coun. Kevin Horkin, will hand over the chain of office to his successor, who will be chosen during the meeting.

It is widely expected to be the current Deputy Mayor, Coun. Val Cooper, who represents the Edisford and Low Moor Ward.

The meeting is expected to take around half-an-hour, and at 12-45 pm the civic party and guests will process via Church Street, Wellgate and Lowergate to St Michael and St John’s Parish Centre for refreshments.
