A CHARITY race night in aid of MacMillan Nurses and Clitheroe Town Pool Team will be held on Sunday.

The team play league favourites Wigan at home at the Royal British Legion, Whalley Road, Clitheroe, on Sunday with a 2 p.m. kick off.

Following the game, at approximately 6 p.m., the team will stage a video horse racing night and a raffle at the Legion to raise money for the team, but also a minimum of 50% of the funds raised will be donated to the MacMillan Nurses appeal.

Gary Simkin, vice captain of Clitheroe Town Pool Team and treasurer of Clitheroe Pool League, said: “Anyone is welcome to come along and support the event to help raise funds for this very worthy cause.”

Clitheroe Town Pool Team travel to Great Yarmouth on Thursday, October 6th, for the National Team and England Single’s knock-out finals which run from October 6th to October 9th. A total of 96 town teams qualified earlier in the year, while hundreds more didn’t, hoping to win the most prestigious title in the pool calendar of the UK’s best town team. Hundreds more individual players will also attempt to win the single’s title.

explained: “There will be more than 1,000 pool players attending the Great Yarmouth event in which there are more than 50 pool tables brought in especially.

Gary added: “It’s also common place to see several international snooker players playing in the tournament and more or less the whole England Pool Team will also be in attendance playing for several teams. A lot of these are either full-time professional snooker and pool players.”
