AS billions of people prepare to watch Prince William marry Kate Middleton tomorrow in a lavish affair, a Clitheroe couple will be taking their own vows – having announced their big day two weeks before the royal couple!
Hairdresser Laura Dinsdale will marry Matthew Harrison, who is in the 1st Battalion Scots Guards of the British Army, at Clitheroe Parish Church.
The couple, who are both aged 24, met three years ago through mutual friends and also have a 19-month-old son, Carter.
Laura, who is a former pupil of Bowland High School, Grindleton, said she had no idea tomorrow’s date would turn out to be such a famous and historic one for wedddings.
“Matthew proposed to me on my birthday on December 5th and we immediately announced our engagement and arranged a wedding date,” she said. “Two weeks later we heard on television that Prince William and Kate Middleton annouced their wedding to be held on the same date! We couldn’t believe it!”
Unlike most brides-to-be, Laura, who works at a salon in Burnley, said she is very relaxed about her wedding day thanks to support from family and friends.
“Everyone has been really helpful and we are very lucky indeed. My best friend is baking the cake, my cousin is arranging the flowers and I have managed to get a very good deal on my wedding dress.
“We are really looking forward to our big day and to also see Carter act as the pageboy. It’s worked out great with it being a Bank Holiday Monday and our guests have not had to take a day off tomorrow!”
Matthew, who is from Burnley and has served in Iraq and Afghanistan, will be attending the Trooping the Colour Parade in London in June.
The couple will celebrate their nuptials with 150 of their family and friends at Clitheroe Cricket Club.
