Manchester United legend Alex Stepney will be the special guest when Clitheroe’s popular Swan and Royal public house hosts a charity fund-raising night next month.
Playing in goal for United from 1966 to 1978, Stepney was United’s goalkeeper when they became the first English club to win the European Cup and he still holds the record for the most Manchester United appearances for a goalkeeper.
The Swan and Royal, in Castle Street, is holding the charity night for two great causes. The first is My Daddy Is A Soldier – a charity supporting the young children and families of soldiers during their deployment overseas – and also benefiting from fund-raising on the night will be Derian House Children’s Hospice, at Chorley.
There will also be a comedia/comparee, raffles and an auction of sporting memorabilia, including items donated by Alex Stepney.
Swan and Royal landlord Terry Joy commented: “This will be the one and only time to see Alex in Clitheroe and it promises to be a great night for two great causes.”
Tickets, priced at just £25 including dinner, are available now from The Swan and Royal (tel. 01200 423130). For more about the two charities benefiting from this event, visit their websites at www.mydaddyisasoldier.co.uk and www.derianhouse.co.uk
