THERE were cakes galore at the inaugural meeting of the Ribble Valley branch of the Clandestine Cake Club on Saturday.
Club members spent a blissful couple of hours sampling each others cakes, cushioned from a drizzly, grey day in the warm and friendly surroundings of The Parkers Arms in Newton in Bowland, where owners Stosie Madi and Kathy Smith joined in the fun, creating some great cakes of their own.
A spokesman said: “We couldn’t have had a more perfect first venue. Chocolate and walnut, gooseberry and lemon posset cake, Victoria sponge, red velvet cake and eleven different confections in all.”
The second gathering will be held on Saturday, September 8th at a secret location within the Ribble Valley, and the theme will be “Harvest” – creative use of the fabulous produce of this area is encouraged!
Everyone is welcome – experienced bakers and novices. It’s not a competition, just a great opportunity to socialise - and eat cake! Aspiring bakers and cake eaters can sign up for further details at http://clandestinecakeclub.co.uk/groups/ribble-valley/ or e-mail Kate and Liz at firstname.lastname@example.org for further details.
