CUSTOMERS and staff at Clitheroe’s Sainsbury’s store have raised £3,000 in just three months for its charity of the year, the North West Air Ambulance.

Staff member Heather Shaw raised £500 through a sky dive while fellow employee Lynne Bateman raised £1,000 through a sponsored silence. More money has been raised through customer donations, volunteer bag packing and other initiatives since June, enabling a cheque for £2,000 to be handed over at the Moor Lane store, in addition to the £1,000 already presented to the charity.

But the fund-raising goes on, with one of the biggest events – a Race Night at Clitheroe’s Swan and Royal Hotel – planned for Saturday October 8th. Tickets costing £5 including supper are available from the store and the first race is at 7-30 p.m. Horses can be bought for £5 and winning owners receive a bottle of wine.
