A POPULAR Sabden pub that has been closed for several months is set to re-open its doors on Friday.
According to new landlady Mrs Barbara Gordon, many villagers have been knocking on the door to see when The White Hart, in Padiham Road, will be back in business.
She said: “We have had a lot of inquiries from people wanting to know when we will be opening and one customer came along with chocolates and flowers for us, so we are starting to feel welcome already.’’
Barbara, who is 51, will be at the helm with her husband, Jamaican-born Vaughn, who is a chef. The couple have spent the past six years running The Crown Inn at Pooley Bridge in the Lake District. Running the business for relatives, the couple longed to have their own pub and when The White Hart became available they jumped at the opportunity.
Thwaites, which owns the White Hart, has spent £85,000 on refurbishments and Vaughn is looking forward to using his skills to come up with a daily food menu along with traditional Sunday roasts. Plans are also in the pipeline to start pool and darts teams.
The couple met when Vaughn (39) was working on a building site close to Barbara’s home at the time in Manchester.
