ON BENEFITS: Hartlepool has a problem with long-term claimers

A fall in unemployment in the Ribble Valley has been welcomed by MP Nigel Evans.

Mr Evans was speaking after the announcement the UK unemployment rate has dropped to 7.1%.

According to the figures from the Office of National Statistics, the number of people out of work across the UK fell by 167,000 to 2.32 million in the three months to November. The number of unemployed claimants in the Valley in December was 667.

The number of people claiming Jobseekers Allowance nationally fell by 24,000 to 1.25m.
