A RECORD entry of 375 fine animals were forward at Gisburn Auction Mart’s opening New Year sale of breeding and store pigs.

Topping the trade was David Pawson with a pair of quality prime Pietrain pigs. They sold for £136 to W. Taylor & Son, of Bamber Bridge. Regular vendor Peter Lambert, of Hebden Bridge, won the first prize rosette in the store pig class, these later selling for £88.

Weaners hitting the 18-22kg bracket and white in colour attracted the usual good trade for the Chinese market in Manchester, topping at £34. A large number of cull pigs from a Scottish vendor sold to £130.

Averages were: weaners £18; stores £46; prime £106.

Auctioneers were Richard Turner and Son.
