EMMA’S Dairy – a milk processing and bottling plant providing local shops and restaurants with Organic Lancashire Milk direct from the farm – has been launched at Lower Gazegill Farm, Rimington.

It will allow the farm to pasteurise and bottle milk for the local area rather than let it travel hundreds of miles through a centralised distribution chain.

Owner and co-founder Emma Robinson said: “This is an exciting and bold step for us to take. While the farm outlet selling our pork, lamb and beef was a big step, this is a positively huge leap getting the biggest thing we produce into the local market and economy.”

The bottles of milk will be the first to carry the OMSCO Local Logo (Organic Milk Supply Cooperative) and Emma is working hard with OMSCO to get regional milk back into local fridges. Keeping the product regional has a massive knock-on effect for the local economies and businesses who supply the farms and their associated businesses.

Visiting school and youth groups will also benefit as they can now use the cheese, yoghurt and butter making equipment to change pasteurised whole milk into a number of different everyday products.

Emma said: “We hosted 115 educational visits last year and with this equipment and the processed milk, we can offer so many more things for our visitors to do.”

Gazegill Organics offers free educational trips to the farm. For details about this and where you can buy Emma’s Dairy Produce visit {http:// www.emmasorganicdairy.com|www.emmasorganicdairy.com} where a monthly blog allows everyone to follow the “Farmer Dramas” throughout the year.
