Riverside Care Centre, which is based in Sawley and part of Canterbury Care, has been awarded five stars by the Cinnamon Trust for being a pet friendly care home.

The home, which has one guinea pig, one cat and 10 rabbits, was recognised for the excellent care and support it provides for residents and their pets following an inspection by a volunteer from the Cinnamon Trust.

Staff and residents at the Riverside Care Centre were interviewed and the volunteer evaluated the quality of life that the pets have at the home.

The Cinnamon Trust’s primary objective is to respect and preserve the relationships between owners and their pets and to help owners overcome any difficulties that might arise.

Riverside Care Centre provides residential care for 40 elderly residents with dementia.

Gail Ainsworth, Riverside Care Centre manager, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded five stars by the Cinnamon Trust and the pet friendly accolade has come at the perfect time as our rabbit has just had lots of babies.”
