Shoppers chipped in generously when members of Clitheroe Rotary Club took their collecting buckets to the town’s Sainsbury’s store.

In just two days, the volunteers collected £1,400 for Rotary charities, which include Phillipines typhoon relief and food parcels for Clitheroe’s elderly people.

Youngsters Sienna, Lexi and James, pictured out shopping with their mums, were thrilled to meet Santa at Sainsbury’s.

The two Rotary Clubs of Clitheroe and Ribblesdale also joined forces with Clitheroe Round Table and Clitheroe Lions to distribute festive food parcels, provided by Clitheroe town mayor Cllr Kevin Horkin’s charity fund, to people over 80 living in the borough of Clitheroe.

Rotary past-president Mr David Bleazard said: “It’s been a great example of the service organisations working together, and another show of the incredible generosity of Ribble Valley people giving more than £1,400 raised for charitable purposes.”
