This year’s Chipping Show enjoyed a record number of visitors and was hailed a “great success” by organisers and visitors alike.
The sun came out after some early morning downpours and the judging of Shires, Shetlands, cattle and sheep took place in the main ring in the morning, with a particularly notable entry for the Shetland section.
Later in the day, the crowd were treated to sheep racing, a tug of war, sheepdog demonstrations, a vintage tractor display and lawn mower racing before a crowd-pleasing finale of open egg catching and a grand parade of all show categories winners from the day.
Some 60 trade stands were in attendance at the show, with a great turn out in the cheese tent, for which the show is becoming particularly well known, and bumper stalls in the popular local produce tent. The horticultural, craft and WI tents were all well supported and the number of cakes were deemed by the judges to be worthy of any “bake off” competition.
Show secretary Mr Paul Hunt said: “The organisers would really like to thank all trade stall holders for their great support again this year, as well as everyone who entered the numerous categories. We appreciate the time it takes, especially when preparing livestock and horses and we look forward to seeing them all again in 2014.”
