A popular Clitheroe fish shop has picked up an industry gong in the world’s largest blind taste test awards.
Wellgate Fisheries’ Sashimi cut smoked Scottish salmon was judged by over 400 of the most demanding food palates, belonging to critics, chefs, farmers and a host of food writers and journalists for the Great Taste Awards 2014.
The awards are widely acknowledged as the most respected food accreditation scheme for artisan and speciality food producers, with judges spending hours and hours blind taste testing over 10,000 different kinds of food and drink.
Wellgate Fisheries proprietor Giles Shaw said: “I’ve been working on my own smoked salmon for a couple of years now and I looked to the Great Taste Awards for some feedback on how it was progressing. I never expected to get a gold star the first time of entering. To say I am pleased is an understatement.”
