Canterbury Care’s Riverside Care Centre at Sawley has been praised following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

A previous CQC report had highlighted issues with staffing at the home, which were already being addressed at the time of inspection. The home responded quickly to resolve the matter and, following a re-inspection, is now meeting the standards set by the regulator.

The report included comments from the Inspector, who said: “We observed staff treating people in a kind, friendly and respectful way”, and “Staff had received training to meet the needs of people living in the home. It was clear from our observations and discussions with staff that they had a good understanding of peoples’ needs.”

Residents were also verypositive, their comments including: “It is a good place, they look after me really well”, “I am happy with everything but I would tell them if I wasn’t”, and “we decide what we want to do and they sort it out” .

Riverside Care Centre provides residential care for up to 40 elderly residents, some with dementia. Its manager, Gail Ainsworth, said: “We always welcome constructive feedback about the care provided at Riverside, such as that in our previous CQC report, as a robust inspection is vital to ensure that high standards of care are maintained.

“We were very quick to respond to the staffing issue highlighted in the report, which we had already identified through our own internal checks, and we were in the process of recruiting new members of staff. It’s very important to us that we carry out robust checks on all potential employees before they join our team, as ensuring that we take all the necessary checks to safeguard our residents is always our priority.

“Hearing the excellent reviews and comments from our residents in the report was very rewarding and is testament to the dedication and hard work of the members of staff at Riverside Care Centre.”
