Hundreds of homes in Clithere were plunged into darkness on Saturday after a power cut hit some parts of town.

Engineers from Electricity North West worked to restore power to 880 homes after being made aware of the fault shortly before 2pm.

The engineers managed to restore power to most of the properties shortly after arriving in town, but took almost six more hours to restore power to the remaining 10 homes.

A spokesman said: “A fault on the overhead power line caused the loss of power to around 880 customers in Clitheroe at 1-56pm on Saturday. Engineers quickly arrived on site and restored power to 870 customers by 3-09pm.

“The remaining 10 customers were restored at 10-29pm. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused and if customers would like any further information they can contact us on 0800 195 4141.”

The majority of homes affected were on the outskirts of the Ribble Valley town.
