A fleet of Red Bull Minis will be a head-turning showcase for vehicle specialists James Alpe Ltd.

The energy drink giant chose chose the Clitheroe company to convert nine cars for a team of ‘Wings’ drivers who will promote Red Bull, whose slogan is “Red Bull gives you wings”, across the UK and Ireland.

The job involves cutting the roof of a brand new Mini, fitting a body kit including a new roof, fridge and giant Red Bull can, followed by a complex and time-consuming four-colour paint job.

The first three cars have been completed for Red Bull’s Irish division.

Company chief Mr James Alpe said: “It’s not too often that a Clitheroe family company gets awarded a contract with a multi national company like Red Bull, so the team here were delighted to be given the job.

“Our name was put forward by one of our business partners, FMG in Huddersfield who have a long standing relationship with Red Bull.”

Red Bull were looking for a long term partner to carry out the specialist conversion work so it was important for Alpe’s, based at Salthill Industrial Estate, to demonstrate their skills and give Red Bull confidence.

They were invited to go to London and make a presentation to Red Bull bosses at their UK headquarters just by London Bridge.

Strangely, Mr Alpe’s team were advised not to wear business suits for the presentation.

He said: “The whole company ethos is cool and trendy and unusually their UK Headquarters are in a London pub! “It went in our favour that we had carried out specialist Mini conversions for another company last year and we were able to use this as a case study in our presentation.

“This, along with having skills in bodywork repair, painting, conversions and vehicle livery all helped our cause.”
