‘Red Rose’ rural award for Clitheroe waste company

Young Clitheroe company Silverwood Waste Management Ltd was named winner of the 2013 Rural Business Award at the Red Rose Awards at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool.
The company, which specialises in sustainable waste management within agricultural communities was founded in January 2011. Currently managing in the region of 4,500 tonnes of industrial waste, in turn diverted from landfill, the company registered more than £1m. in sales last year and counts Heinz, Nestle and Holland’s Pies among its customers.
The Red Rose Rural Business Award is presented to companies servicing the rural economy and those located in rural environments.
The judges commented: “Silverwood’s are fully engaged with the rural economy. They’ve shown growth and an understanding of the market and produced innovative solutions in very difficult conditions. This is a very dynamic and motivational business.”
Owner and managing director Julian Silverwood said: “We were absolutely delighted to be nominated in three different categories and winning the Rural Business award was the icing on the cake. We’ve only been in business for two years and are a small team of three. It’s been a brilliant team effort to get the business so far, so quickly.”
