‘Pass on fuel profits’ says Ribble Valley MP

HIGH-EARNING fuel and energy companies should do all in their power to ensure the prices they charge consumers are fair and affordable, says Ribble Valley MP Nigel Evans.

He was speaking after Shell reported a 54% increase in annual earnings to $28.6bn (£18bn) – that equates to £2.2m an hour.

“People in the Ribble Valley and across the UK are struggling to pay their energy bills and fill up their fuel tanks,” said Mr Evans. “It seems all the harder when companies such as Shell are reporting a 54% increase in annual earnings.

“What we do not want to see are rises upon rises in the price of fuel and energy leading to wider and wider profit margins for companies but a lower quality of life for people all around the country.

“The timing of the announcement of these figures could not be more significant with the very cold weather at the moment meaning that some people are faced with a terrible possibility of not being able to heat their homes.

“I do hope that both oil and energy companies will look seriously at a fair deal for their consumers.”
