A NEW and informative guide to securing European Funding has been launched by Conservative MEP for the North West, Sajjad Karim.

The clearly laid out booklet is aimed particularly at businesses in the region seeking to secure EU backing, but also has useful information for charities and community organisations.

Mr Karim, whose constituency includes the Ribble Valley, explained: “As an MEP I get enquiries all the time, particularly from SMEs (small and mediun-sized enterprises), who struggle to find the information they require.”

Speaking in the European Parliament in Strasbourg, he told fellow MEPs: “We need to improve provision, process and access to information on financing instruments for SMEs.

“98% of all EU businesses are SMEs. They provide 67% of all private sector employment and are responsible for 85% of all new jobs in the European Union. They quite clearly are the backbone of our economies. Providing the right circumstances for their viability is essential for their growth.

“We need to have a much wider approach. I come from a nation of shopkeepers, we must think small first.”

Digital copies of the new guide can be downloaded from Mr Karim’s website (www.sajjadkarim.eu) or to request a paper copy, send an e-mail to: Sajjad@sajjadkarim.eu

Mr Karim added: “I am always keen to meet and hear from our North West businesses and SMEs in particular, so do get in touch if I can assist in any way.”
