A RIBBLE valley printer’s family business has been short listed for a Lancashire business award.

Family business Ellison Printing in Rishton has made it through to the last seven businesses short listed in Lancashire’s top business awards.

Former Clitheroe Royal Grammar School pupil Jane Caunce, whose parents established the business more than 40 years ago, entered the Red Rose Awards for the first time and is up against competition from companies in Blackburn, Preston, Burnley and Haslingden, for the prestigious title of Best Manufacturing Company.

Jane, of West Bradford, who has been in the family business full time for more than 23 years, is extremely conscious of moving with the times. Unlike some printers, Ellison Printing manufacture on site, which means its internal quality systems are under continual review. This, along with more effective purchasing, reduced wastage across the board and better workflow planning has resulted in a decrease in costs, in spite of raw material increases and more impressively an increase in turnover and profit over the last 12 months.

Jane said: “We are absolutely delighted to be short listed. It’s our first time entering the Red Rose Awards and as a small business we are up against some strong competition. It’s good to be recognised for the quality of our products and our service. It is because of this that we have continued to be successful since the business was established by my parents more than 41 years ago.”

The awards are growing year on year and it’s the Lancashire event where Lancashire businesses, commerce and industry are celebrated.

The winners will be announced at the awards’ evening on March 14th at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool.
