An annual five-a-side football tournament held in memory of Clitheroe man Brian Hodgson took place at the Soccerdome in Blackburn.

Brian (39), who died in 2011, was father to four children, Jemma, Hannah, Jorge and Henri ,and married to Laura. A popular teacher at Stonyhurst College, he was a well-known figure in the town.

After a medical discharge from the Army in 1995 following a climbing accident, Brian worked for Lancashire Probation Service and opened The Snip gent’s barber shop in Clitheroe. He then went on to complete a BSc Honours in biomedical science and then a post graduate certificate in education. In 2010 he moved to Stonyhurst College as a house master.

The tournament, organised by friend Lee Robinson, saw 10 teams taking part, and was sponsored by Mantle Packaging Machinery and P and S Travel. It raised £425 for the Bowel Cancer UK charity.

Laura Hodgson said: “This tournament means a lot to our family and we really appreciate everyone’s involvement.”
