Artistic Brownies from Clitheroe, Gisburn and Waddington were not afraid to get their hands dirty when they took part in an arts day.

They joined 250 girls, aged 7-11, from Brownie Units in Lancashire East at Shuttleworth College, Padiham.

The day was aimed to launch Girlguiding Lancashire East’s involvement with The Arts Award. All activities were based on the Discover Award, which introduces children to various forms of art.

It enabled the girls to experience dance from around the world, make sand art, collages and mosaics. In addition, they turned their hands to an oil painting on canvas inspired by the work of famous artists.

The fun-filled and eventful day ended with a group singing session. A spokesman said: “It was a fun informative day, which enabled leaders to start their girls on a journey through the Arts Awards.” Nine-year-old Ally, from Gisburn Brownies, said: “This is the best thing I’ve ever been to at Brownies!”
