Little Mix are riding high at the moment. Their new album ‘Get Weird’ is selling by the crate load both here and across the pond.
Their single ‘Black Magic’ is one of the biggest hits of the year and tickets for their forthcoming arena tour are selling like a fine selection of warm baked goods. They are certainly the biggest girl band in the world at the moment.
The girls are really busy promoting their record but I did manage to grab a quick phone call with Jade and Leigh-Anne while they were en route to film an appearance on Alan Carr’s Chatty Man.
“We certainly think this is our best album yet,” Leigh-Anne told me.
Jade added, “The reaction has been incredible and we are so very, very proud of it.”
Little Mix became the first group to win X Factor back in 2011. Wow how time flies. They have managed to shake off the X Factor winners curse, too. In that time the girls have released three hit albums and have conquered America, which is no mean feat.
The girls’ sound has matured over the years. ‘Get Weird’ features some big ballads showcasing their powerful vocals and some funky R&B infused numbers.
Jade said “We are growing up. We are four young women and we want to have fun so some of our lyrics are a little cheekier but it’s a more grown up album.”
One of the standout tracks on the album is a duet with Jason Derulo. Jade told me, “He was great to work with. It all came about after we covered one of his songs and he loved it.
“So we then sent him a song we had written to see if he’d be up for a duet and he was. It’s one of my favourite songs on the album.”
The girls are touring the UK in March and April next year. After the success of the latest album this tour promises to be all bells and whistles.
They are playing arenas such is the demand for tickets. Leigh-Anne is very excited about it. “This will be our biggest tour ever. It’s going to be epic, we are going all out. We are including magic tricks, big routines, costume changes, the lot. It will be a huge production.”
