Saturday marks a milestone event for Chipping Show, the 90th such event to be hosted by the agricultural and horticultural society.

Chairman Paul Morris said earlier this week he believed the weather was going to improve and the committee was hoping for a “bright and sunny Saturday”.

He said: “We have a full programme of events arranged for the day and higher entries than previous years in both cattle and sheep. We are about 15% up on trade stands, with many local companies showing their support for us this year. So it is going to be a busy field and hopefully a bumper show day. I am looking forward to it.”

Main ring attractions include Chipping Pony Club with mounted games and show jumping, sheep racing, start and finish of the Fell Race, children’s sports, tug-of-war, grand parade, Vale of Lune Hunt, vintage tractors and egg catching.

There will be cattle, sheep, Shetland and Shire horses, light horse and pony classes; baking, wines, preserves, photography, flower arranging, crafts and children’s classes; horticultural section with flowers and vegetables; poultry, pigeons and eggs; fabulous cheese section and don’t forget the friendly dog and baby shows (entries on the day) and farmers’ market and craft marquees. There is also a licensed bar, trade stands, food stalls, lunch marquee, free parking and admission is £10 for adults and £2 for children.

This year’s president is Peter Procter.
