The A59 is now open in both directions past Clitheroe.

The road had been closed for more than three hours following a serious accident at around 1 pm today.

Police closed part of the A59 near Clitheroe following an accident involving a motorbike and a Landrover Discovery.

The road closure, between the junction at top of Whalley Road and the junction at Pimlico Link Road, Clitheroe, caused long tail backs through the centre of Clitheroe.

The biker is believed to have been travelling in the direction of Skipton when the accident happened.

Police and the air ambulance attended the scene with the injured biker being airlifted to the Royal Preston Hospital.
