Young Farmers’ Club marks 70th anniversary

Seventy year of Chipping Young Farmers was celebrated in style, as past and present members gathered for a fabulous and memorable evening.

Held at Ferrari’s, Thornley, 192 people attended the occasion including Bowland regional chairman, Robert Cowgill; county chairman and president, Phillip Miller and Fred Mason and members of the club’s advisory group.

The throng also included husbands, wives, boyfriends, girlfriends - including many who met through Young Farmers - and the youngest was current member 10-year-old Sam Gornall.

There was also a display of old photos, minute books and scrap books, charting the seven decades and some families had three generations present on the night.

There were past officers, be it chairmem or secretaries, and speeches were given by past chairmen Peter Rogerson and John Stott, and Chipping current chairman Rob Flaherty. Club president Sam Hardman said the Grace.

Awards were presented and a raffle was held and the club would like to thank all the businesses who donated prizes.

Rob Flaherty said: “Thank you very much to everyone who came and made the night a great success and for the ongoing support.”

At the club’s recent AGM Sam Hardman agreed to stay on as club president and officers for 2015-16 will be Rob Flaherty - chairman, Louise Peel- vice chairman, Laura Clayton - secretary and Peter Holden - treasurer.

The club has recently enjoyed a visit to Dugdales Nutrition at Clitheroe and the next meeting will be a visit to Dunbia Abattoir this Monday, October 26. The club meets at St Mary’s Community Centre on Mondays at 7.45pm, unless a trip out has been organised where times may vary and members will be informed.
