YOUNGSTERS in Year Five at Whalley-based Oakhill College took a step back in time to soak up the rich history of the Lancashire witches.

They took a trip to the Pendle Heritage Centre at Barrowford with their teacher, Catherine Keane, and were fascinated to follow the fateful journey of 10 East Lancashire residents who were arrested on charges of witchcraft and then marched to Lancaster Castle to meet a gruesome end in 1612.

The children also discovered a wealth of information about the history and development of the Heritage Centre, a former working farm, and of the Bannister family who built the original house in the 1400′s.

After studying exhibits in the museum the pupils moved into the adjoining cinema room to watch a short film that dramatised this important historical time.
