WILL it be Deal or No Deal for Clitheroe character Jose Varo, known locally as Pepe, when he opens his box on the popular Channel Four programme later this month?

Pepe, who lives with his wife, Lisa, in West View, Clitheroe, will open his box on the Noel Edmonds hosted show on Tuesday, March 19th – but will it be a good or bad deal for the genial 64-year-old?

Lisa (57) said of her husband’s television debut: “He likes watching the programme, he likes to watch the people who go away happy. It was something that he really wanted to do, and something he has never done before.”

A former employee of Castle Cement, Clitheroe, Pepe now helps out with his wife’s catering business. He is father to Alicia (33) and Lucia (31).

Apart from securing a place on one of television’s most popular programmes, in the past 12 months Pepe has also been blessed with two grandsons. Eight months ago Alexander was born to Lucia and her partner Garry Campbell, while on February 26th Ruben was born, six weeks premature, to Alicia and her husband John Clement.

“The phone has been going non-top, whether it’s people asking about Pepe on Deal or No Deal or about Ruben,” said Lisa.
