A RIBBLE Valley artist has been asked to exhibit some of his work at one of the country’s most prestigious art galleries.

Peter Taylor, who owns the Bakehouse Gallery in Eshton Terrace, Clitheoe, is to have a selection of paintings in the Snow Scenes and Seascapes December exhibition at the Walker Gallery in Harrogate. The chance to show off his work to a wider audience was an opportunity not to be missed.

He said: “I have exhibited work there before and it is an honour as it is a prestigious gallery that houses some of the work of renowned artists both past and present. To think that my work will be among that collection is fantastic.’’

Born and bred in Clitheroe, Peter, who is 65, has moved around a lot and done many different jobs. But he always had an artistic bent that he fully realised 15 years ago. Owning his own gallery allows him to indulge his passion and talent and make a living from it at the same time.

Peter added: “I feel lucky to be able to enjoy what I do.’’

Specialising in local scenes, in 2010 Peter was asked to paint a new picture of his hometown’s “jewel in the crown’’ Clitheroe Castle for the mayoral Christmas card.

And Peter is certainly not precious with his talents and skill as he is more than happy to pass on tips and advice to any aspiring artists out there.

He added: “I am also keen to hear from any artists who may have ideas and advice for how I can improve my own work.’’
