Veteran comedian Jimmy Cricket is coming to St Mary’s Centre, Clitheroe, to support Child Action Northwest for Christmas.

The Irish funnyman is hosting a “Christmas Through The Ages” concert next Friday, December 14th, to celebrate the charity’s founder’s day anniversary.

Jimmy, who has adopted Rochdale as his home town, has enjoyed a lifetime career in entertainment and is famous for his catchphrase “And there’s more” and his “Letters from My Mammy.”

Producer Eric Nolan said: “We are delighted that Jimmy has offered to support us in this way. He is a true family entertainer, the like of which you don’t see much of these days.”

Mr Nolan, of Bryers Croft, Wilpshire, has put together a seasonal miscellany of music, costumed readings and song in aid of the Wilpshire-based charity.

The event commemorates the foundation of the original Blackburn Orphanage on December 14th, 1886, by James Dixon.

Mr Nolan said: “We’ve brought back the tradition of marking this date with a celebration of Christmas past and present using music and costumed readings, both humorous as well as serious.”

The concert will feature junior drama group Class Act, local actors giving Christmas readings and singing duo Tom and Evie, regulars on BBC Radio Lancashire.

There be also a section in the concert about Christmas Day in the trenches in the First World War, as a tribute to servicemen and women who will be away from their families and friends this Christmas

Tickets cost £5, including coffee and mince pie, and are available from St Mary’s Centre, Clitheroe, from 01200 425522, from Child Action Northwest on 01254 244700 or online at www.canw.org.uk
