AN ACTION-PACKED programme of courses for the summer is beginning at Clitheroe’s Roefield Leisure Centre.
Its Junior Course programme includes the popular Beginner and Advanced Badminton sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 to 5 p.m. for players aged six to 16. The courses develop basic skills and techniques of the game and improve tactical awareness and match play.
Netball sessions with coaching for beginners through to advanced level players, are on Tuesdays from 5 to 7 p.m. and Thursdays from 4-45 to 6 p.m. for ages six to 11. The course will develop ball, footwork and shooting technique and include fun matchplay.
The popular basketball sessions for eight to 13-year-olds offer coaching to develop basic skills including footwork and movement, ball handling, shooting technique and fun game play. The sessions run on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to noon for beginners and improvers.
Meanwhile the centre’s exciting Indoor climbing wall offers five-week instructed courses for juniors and intensive two-hour sessions for adults/teens on the basics of rock climbing – following on from this are climbing clubs to develop skills further and a chance to take part in the NICAS scheme awarding all skill levels. Courses run on Tuesdays from 5 to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 2 to 3 p.m. for juniors (minimum age eight) and on Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturdays from 3 to 5 p.m. for adults and teenagers.
For those who prefere exercise set to music, there are Hip Hop/Street Dance courses, aimed at ages five to seven (Thursday 4 to 5 p.m.) and eight to 13 (Friday 5 to 6 p.m.). Children aged five to eight can also try a multi-skills course (Tuesdays 4 to 5 p.m.), designed to develop basic skills such as agility, balance and co-ordination with games based on running, striking, kicking and more.
