BURNLEY’s cinema could be transformed with modern new entrance and restaurant.

Plans have been submitted to Burnley Borough Council to remodel the site, on Hollywood Park, off Manchester Road,

Apollo Cinemas said the redesigning of the cinema entrance and restaurant next door would give the complex a contemporary feel.

Mr Guy Illingworth, from Development Securities (Investments) Plc, who has submitted the plans, said: “The application is for an extension to the cinema building, which will alter the overall appearance, and especially bring a contemporary design to the entrance to the cinema. The extension provides a new entrance into a remodelled foyer.”

The existing Hollywood Star pub would not be affected by the development, which would also see the cinema fitted with new signage.

“The proposals provide an opoportunity to bring a fresh new contemporary aesthetic to the cinema entrance.

“The choice of materials has been made both to reflect this contemporary style, but also to achieve a reduced maintenance and sustainable building,” said Mr Illingworth.

The cinema opened in 1997 and has recently been updated to include six 3D screens.

Mr Illingworth added: “This development, through the provision of additional leisure facilities, provides an opportunity to reinvigorate the appearance of the cinema to reflect changes in cinema that have taken place since it originally opened 14 years ago, and to provide additional leisure and employment opportunities within a well-established leisure destination.”
