This week’s old photo was sent in by Barbara Taylor, of Station Court, Clitheroe, who writes: “I found this old picture of my brother, Bernard Duckworth, with a pal in their Cub Scout uniforms, polishing a car for Bob-a-Job Week, which I believe they held every year.

Bob-a-Job Week, which I believe they held every year.

“They used to knock on doors and say ‘bob-a-job? and the person would give them a job to do. If they did a good job the person would give a bob, which is slang for a shilling, and in today’s money is 10p. The money was used for charity I think.”

Barbara would love to know the identity of her brother’s pal in the photo – do you recognise yourself, or perhaps you have childhood memories of Bob-a-Job Week in or around Clitheroe?
