These glimpses of the past were brought in to us by Mrs Doris Brown, who tells us they were taken by her father, Harry Brown, in 1971.

Doris remembers the event well and that is was given the name of “Petticoat Lane, Clitheroe”, but cannot recall if it was staged for any particular national event or just as a town jamboree.

It was a huge street market, emulating the famous Petticoat Lane Market in London, filling the whole of Castle Street with people and stalls. The close-up shot of the stall has a shop called Dean’s in the background, which Doris remembers was a ladies’ hairdressers.
