David Curington

David Curington

After a very successful start to Clitheroe Concert Society’s Diamond Jubilee season, with attendances up by 25%, the fourth concert will be on Wednesday February 8th, with the Eblana String Trio and oboist David Curington.

The Eblana Trio was formed at the Royal Northern College of Music in 2006, winning the Leonard Hirsch prize for a performance of Beethoven. Their recent RNCM Festival performance of the Schoenberg String Trio was described by the Sunday Times as “brilliant”. They have been consistently a “flagship group” of the RNCM and have represented the college overseas, as well as winning the prestigious 2010 RNCM Chamber Ensemble of the Year – also with David Curington.

David Curington graduated with First Class Honours and a Distinction in Mathematics from Cambridge University, where he was a member of the University Chamber Orchestra. He continued at the RNCM, studying for his Masters in Composition. Both his compositions and his oboe playing have won great praise and he has played under conductors Sir Roger Norrington, Marin Alsop and Yan Pascal Tortelier.

The programme for this concert includes works by Bach, Mozart, Finzi, Britten and Moeran.

The concert starts at 7-30 p.m. and will be held at the Clitheroe Royal Grammar School, Sixth Form Centre in York Street, Clitheroe. Tickets for the final concert of the season with Martin Roscoe will be on sale. For details and advance ticket purchases see www.clitheroeconcerts.org.uk or buy from Clitheroe Music, in Moor Lane, or the Tourist Office in Church Walk, or just go on the night.
