Clitheoe church will host art exhibition

TRINITY Methodist church hall in Clitheroe will be transformed into a contemporary art gallery to host a three-day art exhibition with over 150 pieces of work on show for visitors to enjoy.
The exhibition, in aid of the Trinity Development Fund, has been organised by Mrs Kay Thorpe, wife of the church minister, the Rev. Tim Thorpe.
40 artists will have their work on show, made up of both professional and amateurs and a selection of mediums will include paintings, ceramics and photography.
Mrs Thorpe commented: “In planning the exhibition, we were very keen to show a variety of work from artists in different areas and also wanted a large volume of exhibits for visitors to enjoy over the course of the three days. Last summer, the committee spent time visiting exhibitions all around the county and beyond and then compiled a list of 60 or 70 artists that they were keen to approach. They were then contacted and invited to take part and those who responded were accepted on a first come, first served basis.”
Many of the exhibits will be on sale, giving visitors the opportunity to purchase their particular favourites, priced from a few pounds to the more expensive.
All proceeds from the exhibition will go towards the Trinity Development Fund, which was launched in May, 2011. The ambitious plans for a total building overhaul hoped to “ make the church a beacon for the town and bring the building up-to-date and fit and ready for use by future generations”. Plans included replacing the antiquated heating system and totalling re-roofing the structure, as well as making improvements to the main building to make it more flexible for use by its members and also by the wider community. An original target of £1m. was the estimated cost for the work required.
Kay continued: “The first critical phase of development has been completed with the re-roofing of the church and the total fund raising total to date stands at an impressive £240,000. The money has come from a combination of generous donations from individuals and a whole host of events staged in aid of the ongoing appeal. We are hoping the art exhibition will give a major boost to funds and at the same time, be an event that Clitheroe can be proud of and which will attract welcome and extra visitors to the town.”
The exhibition, which runs from Friday to Sunday, March 16th to 18th, will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Entry charge is £1, which includes a catalogue of the exhibits and refreshments will be available.
