A CAVALCADE of classic cars will meander its way around the Ribble Valley on Sunday as Lancashire Automobile Club stages its 10th anniversary St George’s Day Rally.

Entrants will gather from 9-30 a.m. at Mitton Hall, near Whalley, for the popular event, run in conjunction with the Federation of Historic British Vehicle Clubs.

A line-up of 110 classic and vintage cars is expected, with makes including Jaguar, Triumph, M, Austin Healeys, Alvis, Rolls-Royces, Armstrong Siddley, Rover, Morgan, Jowett, Austin, Citroen, Sunbeam Talbot, Bentley, BMW, Mercedes, Daimler, Lotus, AC Cobra, Alfa Romeo, and Ford!

After enjoying breakfast at Mitton Hall, the entrants will set off at 30-second intervals from 11 a.m. for the 75-mile tour of the Ribble Valley.

An excellent route has been planned, which also celebrates the 400th anniversary of the Pendle witch trials and ends at Shackleton’s Garden Centre, Chatburn, where an Orchid Day event is taking place.

Passing through 18 villages and hamlets, the route goes from Whalley to Old Langho, Ribchester, Longridge, Chipping, Whitewell, Dunsop Bridge, Newton, Slaidburn, Tosside, Gisburn, Blacko, Downham and Chatburn.

Shackleton’s Garden Centre is sponsoring the event and a control point will be set up for the cars’ arrival there between 12-15 and 2 p.m. It will be an excellent place to view the line-up of classic cars and take part in other activities at the garden and lifestyle centre. Finally it is on to The Aspinall Arms, Great Mitton, for the finish by mid-afternoon.
