Chipping Show this weekend

FINGERS are crossed for a fine day for the 83rd annual Chipping Agricultural and Horticultural Show on the Showground on Saturday.

The weather has been kind to the show for several years despite rain before and afterwards and last year there was a record attendance of well over 5,000 who enjoyed an eventful and successful show.

Regarded as one of the best one-day rural shows in the North, it celebrates all aspects of farming and rural life.

President's Mr and Mrs John Muter and chairman Len Rogerson are looking forward to welcoming special guests Nigel Evans MP and Ribble Valley Mayor Coun. Lois Rimmer and her consort Mr Gordon Rimmer who will have a grandstand view of the main arena when the popular shire horses make an appearance as will the spectacular hounds and whips from Holcombe Hunt.

There is something for all the family to enjoy with sections for cattle, sheep, Shetland ponies, light horses, poultry, pigeons and eggs, cakes, biscuits, wine, preserves, flower arranging, handicrafts, children's work, flowers and vegetables, cheese and vintage machinery which is always a hit with fathers and sons.

There will be an open dog show (entries taken on the field), a baby show and children's races and the main ring attractions include a falconry display, lawn mower racing, tug-of-war and egg catching competitions.

The trade stands in the local producers' marquee will offer a wide variety of local produce and will also feature cheese making and cookery demonstrations and the craft tent should give everyone ideas for the perfect present. Lunches will be available and a licensed bar is on site.

Judging starts at 9-30 a.m. and the main ring programme starts at noon. The showground is on Longridge Road, Chipping, and there is a large free car park for visitors.
