LETTER: Sad to hear of death of ‘father figure’ Arthur
I WAS sorry to hear of the sad death of Arthur Park last week and extend sincere sympathy and condolences to Eileen, his wife, and family.
I knew Arthur first when I was secretary/agent for the Labour Party in 1963 and my office was next the Twisters and Drawers in the Central Oddfellows and he was the chairman.
In 1976 he was elected to the Council on the same day as me.
Arthur was always a very good local ward councillor and became an excellent chairman of the Recreation and Leisure Committee.
He had two periods as Mayor and, with Eileen, they were a credit to Burnley as its leading citizens.
Arthur was a steadying influence within the Labour Group and Labour Party and was always highly respected by everyone.
A friend to all and increasingly in his later years a father figure offering advice and guidance to others whenever required. He is a sad loss to the Labour movement and Burnley.
PETER PIKE
Chairman of Burnley
