Three hunted after Clitheroe robbery attempt

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was subjected to an attempted robbery as he walked home from work in Clitheroe on Tuesday.

The incident took place at around 8-15 p.m. as the 34-year-old victim was walking home along Faraday Avenue and was approached by three young men.

One of the men demanded his mobile phone, money and cards. The victim refused and one of the men then proceeded to hit him with a pole or stick. The victim shouted for help and all three men then ran away empty- handed.

Tha main offender is described as black or Asian, aged around 17 or 18 years old and 5ft. 8in. tall with a goatee beard. He was wearing a baseball cap. His accomplices are described as white and around 5ft. 10in. tall.

DS Julie Cross from Accrington Reactive CID said “Fortunately, the victim shouted for help and was not seriously injured and the offenders did not escape with any of his property.

“This is an unusual incident for Clitheroe and we are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the incident or the three young men prior to the attack taking place. There is a possiblity that the men may have been loitering on Henthorn Road and then followed the victim on to Faraday Avenue.”
