Fire safety day a great success in Ribble Valley

LANCASHIRE Fire and Rescue Service’s SAFER Day last Saturday was an overwhelming success with nearly 11,000 smoke alarms and Home Fire Safety Checks provided for members of the public.

In Clitheroe alone 92 smoke alarms were distributed and 63 properties signed up for Home Fire Safety Checks. The figures for Longridge were 120 alarms and 17 home checks.

Firefighters and Community Fire Safety practitioners were at various locations such as supermarkets, shopping centres and football grounds to provide fire safety advice as well as handing out smoke alarms.

Peter Holland, Chief Fire Officer for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Saturday was an overwhelming success for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service. We would like to thank everyone who helped promote the event and who helped us hand out thousands of smoke alarms to people from all over the county.

“We urge the people who picked up a smoke alarm on Saturday to ensure that the alarm has now been fitted correctly and that it is tested weekly. If anyone missed out on a free smoke alarm, they can still pick one up via our free Home Fire Safety Check. This can be arranged by dialling our freephone number 0800 1691125 or by visiting our website www.lancsfirerescue.org.uk”

Dave McGrath, watch manager at Clitheroe Fire Station, apologised to anyone who had believed the event was an fire station open day with activities for children.

He added that anyone who missed the SAFER Day is welcome to call in at Clitheroe Fire Station on a Monday evening between 6-30 p.m. and 9 p.m.
