A BLAZE has devastated a farm house situated on the same site as a Grindleton equestrian centre.

The fire ripped through the ground floor, first floor and roof of the stone-built detached house in the Broomhill Farm complex in Smalden Lane, Grindleton, this morning (Thursday).

Four fire crews from Clitheroe, Earby and Barnoldswick were called to the site at 10 a.m., after a members of the public spotted the blaze. An aerial ladder platform was also despatched from Accrington.

Six fire-fighters wearing breathing apparatus went into the farm house and used two water jets to bring the fire under control. They also removed some roof slates so that they could fight the fire in the roof. The operation took a total of four hours.

Dave McGrath, watch manager at Clitheroe Fire Station, said that investigations were at a very early stage.
