FARMING FAMILY: Mr James Barrow

THE funeral of retired farmer Mr James Barrow, who died peacefully at home aged 78, was held at St Helen’s Church, Waddington.

Mr Barrow, of Twitter Lane, Waddington, was born at Cuttock Clough Farm and his family moved when he was an infant to Fields House Farm, where he grew up and took over from his father in 1961, eventually retiring in 1997.

As a young man, he was an active member of Clitheroe Young Farmers, where he met his wife-to-be Marian. They celebrated their golden weding anniversary in 2009.

Mr Barrow was a director and Clitheroe Auction Mart for 17 years, and was chairman when it moved to new premises at Lincoln Way.

He was a founder member of Ribblesdale farmers’ Club, which celebrated its 45th anniversary last year, a member of Royal Forest 401 Masonic Lodge, and a member of Waddington and Tosside Bowling Club.

He is survived by his wife Marian, five daughters, 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
