Resilience, protecting the frontline and planning for the future are the key factors to successful policing according to Lancashire’s new Police and Crime Commissioner Clive Grunshaw.

Mr Grunshaw was speaking ahead of unveiling his first budget in the new role to the Police and Crime Panel on Tuesday.

The Commissioner is asking Lancashire residents to pay five pence per week extra for policing in next years council tax payments. Some of the extra revenue generated will be used to fund an extra 50 police officers.

Mr Grunshaw said: “I want to ensure that Lancashire Constabulary remains resilient in the current financial climate and enabling a further 50 officers to be recruited will maintain frontline policing numbers.”

He continued: “My proposed budget for 2013/14 is realistic and prudent and that approach, combined with the efficiency programme, is designed to help the constabulary to maintain the impressive level of service provided to our local communities.”

The Commissioner will present his proposed budget to the Panel, who will be asked to review and make a report on the proposed increase in the policing element of the council tax by an extra £3 per year for a Band D property, equivalent to just five pence extra per week over the year.
