FIRE-FIGHTERS responded to a severe flat fire in Clitheroe in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday).

Clitheroe fire-fighters were called out to a ground floor flat at Brotherton Meadow, Clitheroe, at just past 5 a.m.

It was well alight when the crews arrived and they were forced to smash the front windows to clear the flat of smoke before being able to open the front door and deal with the fire using breathing apparatus and one hose reel.

The 40-year-old man who lives in the flat was not harmed in the fire.

Clitheroe Fire Station watch manager Dave McGrath said the blaze caused severe damage to the flat’s lounge and severe smoke damage to three additional rooms.
