Splashing day out for Valley paddlers
PADDLERS from across the North West had a "splashing day out" when Clitheroe Canoe Club hosted its second annual Canoe Polo tournament.
Canoe Polo is one of the eight canoeing disciplines pursued in the UK and is thought to be the country's fastest growing canoe sport at the moment. It combines paddling and ball handling skills with an exciting contact team game, where tactics and positional play are as important as the speed and fitness of the individual athletes.
Thirty paddlers from clubs in the North West took part in the fun tournament, including Clitheroe, Pendle Paddlers, Manchester and Liverpool. Some rare sunshine made the occasion all the more enjoyable, with a series of games between six teams, each of five players. Honours went to the "Bart" team, comprising players from Clitheroe, Pendle and Friends of Allonby, who won three out of their four games, the fourth being a goaless draw.
Clitheroe Canoe Club, based at its purpose-built facility Chatburn Water, Chatburn, is a family oriented canoe club which offers opportunities in recreational and competitive canoeing and kayaking to people of all ages.
